Normals Recalculation
Ribbon: 3DScan – Meshes > Re-calculation of Normals
Menu: 3DScan – Meshes > Re-calculation of Normals
Toolbar: Meshes 3DScan > Re-calculation of Normals
Command line: PC_RECALC_NORMALS
Cloud points have such parameter as normal. Point normals are used for cloud vectorization (triangulation, recognition of vector primitives). For better recognition, points of one cloud surface should have collinear normals.
Sometimes it may be necessary to adjust (recalculate) point normals before triangulation. Normals are corrected by the Re-calculation of Normals command.
The direction of normals is checked visually. To do this, it is necessary to recolor the cloud in accordance with normals direction. In the View Mode command’s dialog box, select a new Normal coloring type.
Cloud points will be colored depending on the direction of their normals. At that, points with normals collinear with a certain coordinate axis will have the color of this axis.
That’s approximately how building points should look for good triangulation – normal of points of each plane are oriented to own direction
The command options are set on the Properties bar.
Options:
Neighbor Count |
Number of neighboring points in the neighborhood of this point, by which the normal is calculated. The default value is 20. |
Coherent Adj Num |
Number of neighboring points in the neighborhood of this point, by which the normal direction is adjusted (direct or reserve). The default value is 8. |
